Established in 1975, the Memorial Trust Foundation encourages community residents, businesses, foundations and organizations to support Downey Regional Medical Center (DRMC). The health care industry will continue to benefit from advances in medical research and technology and it is through generous contributions from donors that DRMC can make the investment to ensure our medical center offers cutting edge medical technology to treat all our patients. Thousands of donors have made charitable contributions to a number of important projects during the past three decades, including:
• A new patient care wing
• The Anderson Critical Care Center
• The J. Arthur Morris Imaging Center
• Renovation of the Emergency Care Center
• Surgical and cardiovascular equipment
• Health education programs
• The Henderson-Georgen Education Scholarship Fund
As a non-profit institution (501(c)3), the Memorial Trust Foundation is committed to funding improvements at DRMC by encouraging the community’s continued charitable support of the medical center. This, in turn, enhances the health of more than 100,000 local residents each and every year. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed.
There are several opportunities to make a gift to the Memorial Trust Foundation. Below are several options for your consideration. The Memorial Trust Foundation staff can also assist in helping you fulfill your goals or personal wishes.
Giving Opportunities
Cash Contributions
You can support DRMC with a gift of cash, or a cash pledge payable over three to five years. This gift is tax deductible in the year the donation is made. Checks should be made payable to: Memorial Trust Foundation. (Tax ID# 20-3883428)
Securities
For maximum tax benefits, you may want to consider a gift of long-term appreciated securities. You will receive an immediate tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities. Because you will not be subject to any tax on the appreciation, you may also realize significant tax savings.
Tangible Personal Property
Depending on your situation, you may want to make your contributions in the form of assets such as real estate, art, antiques.
Life Insurance
You can name the Memorial Trust Foundation as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy. You can transfer ownership of an existing policy that is fully paid or you can establish a new policy in the Foundation’s name and make monthly or quarterly premium payments.
Retirement Plans
You may want to use your retirement savings to make a contribution. Left to heirs other than a spouse, retirement savings funds can incur both estate and income taxes. Donating them to charity reduces the tax burden borne by your heirs, and provides you with a sizable tax deduction. Simply name the Memorial Trust Foundation as the beneficiary of an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), 401(k), or other retirement savings plan.
Bequests
If you prefer, you can make your gift through a bequest in a will or living trust. To discuss bequests or other planned giving opportunities which may provide you with an income stream during your lifetime, contact the Memorial Trust Foundation at 562.904.5055 or Crystal Torres at crystal.torres@drmci.org.
For additional information about these and other forms of giving, please contact the Memorial Trust Foundation at 562.904.5055.
