Your Room

We have made every effort to provide you with the accommodations of your choice. Your room will be located within the specialized area for your illness.

Your may have a semi-private room while staying at Downey Regional Medical Center. Please be courteous of your roommate and respect their right to a healing environment. Each room is equipped with a nurse call button located near the side of your bed. Your nurse will instruct you on how and when to use the call button. In addition, there is an emergency button in your bathroom should you require immediate assistance. If you need something, please signal for your nurse and ask for help rather than attempt an action or movement that could result in a fall or strain.

Extra pillows and blankets are available by asking the nurse. For your safety, your bed rails must be in the up position at night and after you have taken anesthetics or medication that may make you sleepy. Although this may seem unnecessary as you begin to feel better, we encourage you to use the side rails and call for assistance when getting out of bed.

Television

Each room is equipped with a personnel remote control television and a telephone. For your enjoyment, we offer the standard television stations as well as, a free movie channel and patient education channel.

Telephone

Free local calls can be made by dialing "9". Wait for a dial tone, then dial the number.

To place calls outside of the 562 area code, dial "8" plus 0 plus the number, then give the outside operator your billing information (for example, your home number or calling card number).

Family and friends can call you by dialing the main hospital number, (562) 904-5000. If they have a touch-tone telephone, they can enter your room number when prompted by the recording to enter an extension. Callers not using a touch tone telephone can wait until they are connected to the hospital operator and ask to be transferred to your room.

Food Services

In planning your menu, the hospital Dietetic Services department follows basic nutrition principles while allowing for personal taste preferences. A menu with several options is sent to you daily so that you may select your meal for the following day. If your physician orders a special diet for you, a dietitian will discuss your menu with you and give you instructions.
Please do not eat or drink anything brought from home without the approval of your physician and nurse.

Individualized dietetic counseling is also available on an outpatient basis.

On-the-go foods are available in vending machines located throughout the hospital or from the Gift Shop. Visitors are also welcome to dine in the hospital cafeteria.
