Respiratory Services
Thousands of Americans will struggle with breathing at some point in their lives. This can occur for many reasons such as an accidental injury, a heart attack or stroke, asthma or emphysema or even in babies who are born early and have immature lungs. If you should experience breathing difficulties, the specialized respiratory treatment team at Downey Regional Medical Center is prepared to evaluate, treat and care for you.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
People with chronic respiratory problems can learn how to better care for themselves, lessen their visits to the hospital and improve their quality of living through the DRMC Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. More than 600 patients have participated in this comprehensive, six-week, outpatient program since its inception in 1979. It is currently the only program of its kind in Southeast Los Angeles.
Pulmonary Rehab patients come twice a week and work with a team comprised of respiratory therapists, nutritional counselors and physical therapists. The program covers pulmonary disease specifics, infection control, proper breathing and relaxation techniques, stress management, nutritional guidance, medications, safe exercises and other helpful information.
The Pulmonary Rehab program is offered via referral by a physician. If you know someone who might benefit from this program and need more information, call
(562) 904-5355 or email respiratory.services@drmci.org
