10-hour Management of Diabetes
This class has helped hundreds of patients stabilize their sugars, bring down their weight, blood pressure and cholesterol, and improve their attitude. Facilitated by diabetes experts in nutrition, fitness, and medication, this 10-hour class teaches patients all aspects of self-management and is open to the diabetic person and his or her family. Classes are four, 2-1/2 hour sessions offered either in the mornings or evenings. Advanced registration is required by calling the DRMC Diabetes Program at (562) 904-5580. Fee: $10.

As part of the services offered by the Diabetes Program, the Diabetes Educator may recommend that a particular patient may be seen for individual dietary counseling. A diabetes professional will work the patient to create a healthy and maintainable diet.We offer weekly group teaching for:
• Newly diagnosed/Meter
• Diet (once a month)
Small group teaching for women who develop gestational diabetes during their pregnancy is available. This session includes glucose meter instruction and personalized meal plans. Gestational diabetes is available to women delivering at DRMC who have been referred by their physicians. The Diabetes Educator is available to meet with patients and their families in small groups. The patient's primary physician must have staff privileges at DRMC.

• Insulin pump education and management
• Meal planning
• Carbohydrate counting
• Weight management
