Of nearly 1.5 million California adults suffer from diabetes mellitus approximately 500,000 reside in LA County. California now leads the nation in every age group through 65 in diabetes, putting one in seven adults at risk. Diabetes is a serious health condition. Left untreated, it can lead to multiple complications, such as heart disease, blindness, kidney failure and limb amputation.

There is no cure for diabetes, but learning long-term diabetes management skills can help delay or prevent these complications and allow persons with diabetes to lead a full life and maintain optimum health.

Since its 1997 inception, our goal has been to provide quality education programs that teach people with diabetes how to self-manage their disease while continuing to enjoy quality of life. Our program is designed to take into account each individual’s learning style as well as cultural differences. Educational services are provided by our skilled staff who teaches real-life, day-to-day solutions for nutrition, exercise, and medication management.

The DRMC Diabetes Program was developed according to the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs and the American Diabetes Association Review Criteria.
